About the Author

Yolanda L. Everett is a native of Montgomery, Alabama. She is a mother, a daughter, a sister, an educator, a singer, a songwriter, and a friend to many. Her book about the experiences of her father, Charles Everett, with the Montgomery Bus Boycott when he was a child reflects the unity and strength that African Americans demonstrated during the Civil Rights Movement.

“We need that same unity and strength in our communities today now more than ever before,” she says. “The legacy left behind from those who fought for our rights will live on forever. I want my daughter to know about that legacy, and I want her to understand the African American experience.” Yolanda and her daughter Daija Duncan live in Atlanta, Georgia, where Yolanda has been a teacher for twenty-one years.
