Peter and the Boycott

The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a thirteen-month mass protest that was sparked by the arrest of Rosa Parks on December 1, 1955. The Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA), with Dr. Martin Luther King as president, coordinated the boycott to take place on Dec. 5, 1955. It was his first role as a civil rights leader.

This would be an important day for ten-year-old Charles Patterson Everett IV (Peter), who doesn’t quite understand all the talk about boycotts. He eventually gains an understanding of the meaning of it all after hearing Dr. King speak, learning a valuable lesson that would stick with him for a lifetime.
